Yes, you are pregnant! Congratulations! Your body will change a lot and so will your skin. Pregnancy gives you a lot of skin; you can suffer from pregnancy itch, pregnancy acne, etc. Learn more about skin changes during and after pregnancy and how to take care of your skin in this blog!
1) Itching During Pregnancy
A disease that can really drive you crazy: itching during pregnancy. About 20% of women are affected. Due to the growth of the belly and breasts, the skin often grows too fast to keep up. There is a lot of tension, which unfortunately can cause itching during pregnancy. Heat can make the itching worse, so try not to sleep in scorching places and don’t take showers that are too hot. Use unscented soaps and unscented skin creams. Dehydrated skin also causes itching, so moisturize with a good cream. If itching is severe, massaging the abdomen can also help. Use a delicate moisturizing cream and gently massage the abdomen. This can be done daily; even five minutes a day is enough to make the skin beautiful.
2) Acne During Pregnancy
During pregnancy, acne and bumps often appear on the face and may also occur in other areas such as the chest, back, and shoulders. Again, this is due to hormones. Good skincare can help reduce acne during pregnancy. For example, you should wash your skin morning and evening with warm water and pH-neutral soap. To avoid damaging the skin, dry it gently with a soft towel after washing. Once the acne has subsided or disappeared, the skin needs cleaned and moisturized daily.
3) Linea Negra
Many pregnant women suffer from this vertical stripe on the belly. These stripes, also called “linea negra,” are usually black and run from the pubic bone to the navel. They appear when the abdomen begins to separate and make room for the uterus. It is actually always present but only becomes visible during pregnancy. The color of the line can also be darkened if your skin produces more pigment. In many women, it becomes visible starting in the second trimester of pregnancy. Unfortunately, it cannot be completely prevented. It is essential to keep out of the sun as much as possible and apply a high sunscreen coating to the belly. The line usually disappears on its own after pregnancy.
4) Eczema During Pregnancy
Another cause of itching may be pregnancy eczema. In this case, you will develop pesky red patches or eczema bumps. If you have already suffered from eczema in the past, it may recur during pregnancy. If this is the case, use an Eczema cream, which can also be used during pregnancy.
5) Stretch marks
Around the third trimester, your belly begins to grow. As a result, you may suffer from stretch marks (pregnancy marks). The skin stretches, and the connective tissue in the lower layers of the skin breaks. This causes stretch marks to form on the skin. Unfortunately, this phenomenon cannot be completely prevented, but we can offer some relief to the skin. If we keep the skin elastic from the beginning of pregnancy, it will remain flexible and stretch a little easier. Therefore, apply a good cream daily and continue to do so until the first three months of pregnancy.
6) Post-pregnancy Skin
There is no need to worry, as most complaints will (gradually) disappear after pregnancy. However, since the skin is the most important organ, it is essential to continue taking care of it after pregnancy. Pregnancy and childbirth require a great deal of energy for the body. Therefore, it is necessary to take good care of the skin after delivery. Use creams and lotions to keep the skin supple and moisturized. Are you breastfeeding and suffering from sore nipples? Try to get an ointment for this issue. Oinments not only help with the baby’s red bottom but also soothes and softens sensitive nipples.
